Legend speaks of seven celestial lords who decide the fates of the wicked and rule the afterlife with an iron fist. They reside in a kingdom of darkness and fire within the spirit realm.

Due to their nature as rulers of those punished for their foul deeds, they are known as the Princes of Sin. Each one named after the worst vices of man.

Vanity: Pride incarnate. Part of a race of creatures made of light, the Prince of Vanity considers himself the rightful ruler of the spirit world, saying that he was constructed from the light of the dawning sun. How this makes him the true ruler is anyone's guess.

Avarice: a literal golden god, Avarice's greedy ways and hoarding led him to be cast out by his brothers, and he has sworn vengeance upon them. All who look upon him see what they desire most.

Ravage: A bottomless pit of voracious hunger, this arch demon looks like a giant bat, with an unhingable jaw for a gaping maw that some say resembles a whale shark, except circled by rows and rows of jagged teeth. It is believed that, like vampire bats, Ravage must consume twice his body weight at every meal just to stay fed. When not torturing souls, he sits at a great feast, devouring foods of both delicious and macabre qualities.

Desire: Once believed to be a goddess of love, her abilities lied more in attraction than actual personal connection and romance. As humanity evolved beyond basing love on the purely physical, her powers started to fade. Now, she must feed off the vices of society in order to not fade from existence. She is a beautiful creature, with flowing reddish brown locks, exotic purple eyes, and glowing skin, but, since her turn to the dark side, her more oceanic origins have begun to show through. Webbing between her fingers, her ears becoming fin-like, and blue-green scales appearing in patches on her body. Her body's "decaying" as she calls it, has led to need a constant stream of praise and adulation for her looks. She thinks that if she and her compatriots take over the Netherworld, she will be returned to her former beauty.

Apathy: A lackadaisical individual, Apathy is a former deity of knowledge and technology, however, he became consumed by his technology, and he uses it to do everything for him. He is one of the more powerful of the Princes because of this but, he does nothing with it. This could be why he is known as Apathy. It is speculated he is the paragon of this sin because he is complacent with the status quo, and would rather rule what they have than seek out more. His lethargy has led His fellow princes to use threats and force to get him to help further their goals.

Hate: Hate was once the leader of a tribe of Djinn, but, after his people were enslaved by humans, he rose up against the powers that be. His rage and hatred are only accented by the fact that, as a djinn, he is made of fire. A hulking red monstrosity, he wears a goat skull to hide his face, and clomps around on oversized cloven hooves. Known as the last free Djinn, he seeks to free his people from the vile humans and their puppet masters.

Malice: He who existed before all. Malice is a member of the first celestial race to rise to power, these ancient beings were embodiments of primordial man's fear of the unknown. As man evolved and advanced, discovering the world and universe around him, the old ones slowly withered away, all except Malice's tentacled visage, who still retains that singular shred of fear all humans have, gripped in his Dragon like talons. Malice covets the world man gave the gods around him, and the kinship many share. He wishes to use the limitless power of the spirit world to bring his fellow elder gods back, and ravage the world of man with eldritch abominations, reminding them why they're afraid of the dark.

Seven lords, united by the common goal of destroying the status quo, and showing the mortal world why it should fear their wrath.
Rewatching Over the Garden Wall (great show, watch it if you haven't), and I still love the character of the beast. This creature, engulfed in shadow, who preys upon loss and despair. As the name implies (almost as much as his original name, Old Scratch), he is an adaptation of the Prince of Darkness, Satan.

Thinking about how McHale adapted the character to make him fit for tv, while still retaining this dark edge, it's... Inspiring, so, I thought I'd put my thoughts on adapting some religion based characters I had thought of on paper... Of course, being a pretentious half wit, it couldn't JUST be that, so I amped the Mystery of who these creatures are to 11, however, most of them have pretty big hint to who they're based on.
